Is listing on ByOwners.com free?
Yes. Standard listings are free for 90 days and can be renewed free. Featured ($39/30 days) and Spotlight ($99/60 days) upgrades are optional.
What can I list?
Homes for sale, rentals, vacation homes, land, vehicles, boats and RVs, small businesses and commercial property — as long as you own it or are authorized to list it.
How do buyers contact me?
Through the private message form on your listing. We relay inquiries to you by email so you don't have to publish your phone number or address details.
How long does review take?
Usually 1–2 business days. We check for accuracy, ownership signals, copied photos and fair-housing compliance.
Can I legally sell my house without an agent?
Yes, in every U.S. state. Some states require or customarily use an attorney at closing, and all sellers must follow disclosure laws, including the federal lead-based paint rule for homes built before 1978.
Do I have to pay a buyer's agent?
No law requires it. Buyer-agent pay is negotiated between buyers and their agents; sellers may choose to offer compensation or a closing credit to attract more buyers.
How do I set the right price?
Use recent comparable sales nearby, adjust for differences, and consider an independent appraisal. Our pricing guide and free pricing worksheet walk you through it.
What's a flat-fee MLS listing?
A licensed broker posts your property on the local MLS for a set fee while you handle showings and negotiation. It adds exposure without a full listing commission.
How do I avoid scams?
Meet in person, verify ownership in county records, use a title company or attorney for deposits, verify wiring instructions by phone, and never accept overpayments. See our Trust & Safety center.
Do you hold deposits or handle closings?
No. Use a licensed title company, escrow agent or real estate attorney. We can introduce you to one if you ask.
How does ByOwners.com make money?
Advertising (including Google AdSense), optional listing upgrades, sponsorships, flat-fee advertising from service providers, and reader contributions. Never commissions.
Can I donate to support the site?
Yes — thank you! Visit our Support page. Contributions fund operations, promotion of owner listings, hiring and community prizes. They are not tax-deductible.
How do I enter a contest?
Visit the Contests page, pick a contest, and submit the entry form with a link to your photo, story or video. No purchase is necessary.
How do I remove or update my listing?
Use the contact form with the topic “My listing” and your listing ID, and we'll update or remove it.
Do you sell my personal information?
